Changed the report format so it now look like this:

svchost instance running:
• Startprogram til DCOM Serverproces
• Plug and Play svchost instance running:
• RPC (Remote Procedure Call )

svchost instance running:
• Windows Audio
• DHCP-klientprogram
• Windows-hændelseslog
• Tjenesten TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
• Sikkerhedscenter

And yeah, I thing it looks a lot better, also fix the missing d,
thank for your feedback :3
(replaced the files in the 0.5.0.1 download)

Thanks for the quick update. I wish other companies were that helpful.

What I meant about the report was to group the services by maybe leaving a blank

line between each set of services for a given svchost instance. I.e.

• Remoteprozeduraufruf (RPC)

• Windows-Audio
• DHCP-Client
• Windows-Ereignisprotokoll

Also you missed a 'd' in 'Service has the ability to be pause'_ on the right hand side

I have made most of the changes you suggested in version 0.5.0.1, however I
havent changed the report format(that much), since the svchost PID number
changes every time the computer is restarted, so it would be kind of confusion, although
it is also very confusion now..... :S, but then again I don't really think people are using it.

I just saw you had a beta and gave it a try. A few things that I noticed different from the 3.0.2 version:

The window is smaller and it is no longer centered. It keeps moving to a different spot each time

you launch it (at least on my system). It would be nice if one were able to resize and have the

program remember the windows settings such as size and position. If that is too much trouble,

centering it as before would be okay for me. Also, with the new report function, it would be easier to

read if you formatted it just like the tree view including the svchost PID line. Thanks ....

Yea I've read it, and although I don't really agree with Mark Russinovich, he is entitled to his opinion, though the whole reason why I made this program in the first place was because of the windows way of viewing the service stuff, it is really confusing, and its hard to read the descriptions for what a service does, in my opinion, so I tried to make something better, I don't know if I succeed, but I tried :P

And yea I also make alot of my own programs, even though there may be tons of other applications out there that does
the same thing, it just more fun than downloading it :3

Have you recently checked out the review on HowToGeek.com? It appears that Mark Russinovich characterised it as 'unnecessary' in one of the comments, because you can view the same information using Process Explorer. I wouldn't even put the two in the same cathegory (and also have a service viewer of my own, which I made fully aware of Process Explorer and your program functionality, and for my own amusement, however unnecessary it may be).

Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to have svchost viewer default to expanding the svchost tree so that one can see right away what is running under those tasks. This would save a person from having to expand each svchost entry. Not much info there when the tree is collapsed.

Does the error come up right when you start the program ??

If so, do you have .Net version 2.00 or higher installed ??

.Net should be in windows XP sp3, but the error looks like the .Net
might be installed wrong or have some other problem, how ever
this is just a guess.

As for your 2. question, I'm not sure if you need to "block" them, svchost.exe are
a normal thing for windows to run, actually many of the services are necessary
for getting windows to work at all.

hey man, nice work svchost viewer.exe - application error the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application winxp sp3 i run full version of glary utilites which monitors processes, ive got several instances of generic host process for win32 services which is an svc process i think, i want to know what they are and if i should block them. thanks

Yea I hear you, but the reason i made the pop-up
is so you could quickly close it, if you accidentally click on the application.

If you don't want it, you can easily remove it, just
download the source code and change the text in "Form1_Load" to

private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
LoadSvchostData();
}

and compile :P

Hi,

Is there any chance of adding an option so that there is no pop-up msg when launching the program?

To me, if I did not want the program to run, I would not have launched it, so why the pop-up to continue?

If it does take more time to gather the info on some PCs, maybe a progress bar with a cancel button would do just as well.
